How To Hack the RadioShack 12-802 Into A Ghost Box

This is a super easy ghost box hack you can do with minimal tools. All you will need is a Phillips head screwdriver and a cutting device such as a hobby blade or precision scissors.

The radio we will be hacking is the RadioShack 12-802. It's a small handheld radio with its own built-in speaker.

First, turn the radio over and remove the battery compartment so you can get to the screws.

Once the screws are out, carefully pry the case apart. Take it slow and be gentle because you don't want to damage any wires or components inside the radio. Once it is opened up it should look like this:

We are looking for a group of 6 wires that usually ends in a white wire. There should be a group of 6 wires next to a group of 2 wires.

You want to clip the white wire. It's the last wire on the right of the group of 6. It should look like this once complete:

After cutting the wire, put everything back together again. Pop in some batteries and test it out!

I like this box a lot because it is small and portable and also has a nice sounding scan. It's great for quick sessions, or when you can't carry a lot of equipment. It's always been one of my favorites to have in the arsenal of ghost boxes.

Thanks so much for watching, reading, and listening. I will have more posts coming soon!
